In the past few weeks, Kabir Singh has been ruling the box-office. The film has gone on an unhindered run and has managed to rake up Rs. 246 crores at the ticket window. Now, the film will finally face some competition and that will be posed by none other than Hrithik Roshan starrer Super 30, which is all set to release tomorrow. While the film is yet to hit screens, the response by critics and people who have seen the film is enough proof that the film will score big at the box-office. So, before the release of the film tomorrow, we decided to list 5 reason why Super 30 should be on your weekend watchlist.
1. Hrithik Roshan back on screen… finally.
It goes without saying that Hrithik Roshan is one of the biggest superstars and one of the finest talents in the country. In an illustrious career spanning almost two decades, the actor has been seen in various kinds of characters. He started off his career with a typical romantic hero in Kaho Na… Pyaar Hai and was also seen playing a superhero in the Rakesh Roshan directorial Krrish. He’s carved his own niche in Bollywood and proved that he’s one of the most versatile actors around. He was last seen in Kaabil back in 2017 and it has been almost two and a half years since then. Now, Hrithik for the very first time will be seen in a biopic in which he’ll play the character of the Patna based mathematician Anand Kumar. Ever since the project was announced fans were eager to see his return on the big screen. The trailer of the film too impressed everyone as Hrithik was seen in a completely different avatar and a true Bhojpuri accent. Hrithik shed his glamorous avatar, to get into the skin of the character. In the film, when Anand (Hrithik) says at one point, “Aapatti se aavishkar ka janm hota hain”, you do believe him, especially after having seen how driven his batch of students are. You do want them to dream big and want to see them to go all out and achieve their dreams.
While watching a film, we often tend to forget the work that has gone behind making it. Hrithik was extremely passionate for the project and it was also a major reason why Anand Kumar granted him the rights for the same. In an interview with a leading daily, Anand revealed, “I think I could not have found a more invested and dedicated actor that Hrithik Roshan for this film. There were several people who came to me for the rights and so many actors had expressed their interest in the film. But the way Hrithik explained his vision and his approach to the film and the way he wanted to work on the part, including picking up the body language and the leheza in which I speak, I felt was the best person to play me. He is hugely invested in Super 30.”
2. Mrunal Thakur stepping up
Mrunal Thakur kicked off her career in showbiz while she was in college with the television show Mujhse Kuchh Kehti…Yeh Khamoshiyaan. After impressing in a couple of television shows, the actress tried her hand in Marathi cinema with films like Hello Nandan, Vitti Dandu, Surajya and Rangkarmi. Mrunal Thakur made her Bollywood debut with the film Love Sonia. The young actress reportedly stayed near a brothel in Kolkata to study the body language of the prostitutes for the film. Mrunal delivered a power packed performance in the film and grabbed everyone’s eyeballs in the process.
Super 30 was another test for the actress as this was her first commercial film and one in which she would be sharing screen-space with a superstar like Hrithik Roshan.
It seems like Mrunal Thakur has passed this test too with flying colours as she makes an impactful performance with a small but critical role.
3. An inspiring story
Like we mentioned earlier, Hrithik plays the role of Anand Kumar in the film. Anand Kumar is a renowned mathematician who created waves when his students, most from the underprivileged background, started cracking the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) to secure admission in the prestigious IITs. While most of the institutions across the country charge students in lakhs for their assistance, this man did for completely free of cost. The only condition he had was the student should be eager to perform. Along with his guidance, the students were also provided with lodging, food and other facilities.
The success rate of his students ranking high in the examinations went on increasing each passing year and that’s how he came into the limelight. On children’s day last year, Anand Kumar was conferred the Rashtriya Bal Kalyan Award by President Shri Ramnath Kovind. Now that is a story that definitely needs to be told on the big screen.
4. Stellar supporting cast
Along with the lead pair, the film also is helped by an extremely talented supporting cast. We all know what a fine talent Pankaj Tripathi is and he proves his worth yet again in this film. Aditya Srivastav’s performs well as the antagonist and also makes a refreshing change from his character of an inspector in CID.
Virendra Saxena and Amit Sadh do full justice to their characters as well. The batch of 30 students too were at their best and really make you feel for them.
5. Out of the box music
Now, in a film like Super 30, songs are not exactly meant to be used as a marketing ploy. Instead, the five sound tracks in the film are used to drive the narrative forward. In the album composed by the talented duo Ajay – Atul, the song ‘Basanti No Dance’ sure makes from for an interesting number.
The song starts off as a casual conversation on how the economically disadvantaged feel the pressure to speak in impeccable English and ends up being a rap ranting about the same. The song uses almost no background instruments but utilises percussion to create a rhythm. CHeck it out for yourslelf below.
